My beautiful boy Monet arrived today!
He looks so much different than the first time I saw him. Here he is on the day we met.
All those curly locks grew out into a gorgeous fleece in a scrumptious shade of fawn. I love the fiber on this boy. I just want to bury my hands and face into it and melt.
Of course, Monet might not appreciate that. So I'll let him settle in for awhile without subjecting him to any of my idiosyncrasies.
The light was fading fast after my guests - the mentor farm I've been working with for the past two years, Dave & Betty Carlson of
Spirit Song Alpacas - departed. So I don't have many pictures yet.
But I will, I will.
All my boys are here now. And I'm going to go visit my girls this weekend.
Life is good.

The little guy certainly is adorable, though I suppose he isn't so little anymore. I am not sure if I ever felt alpaca wool before, but it certainly sounds like an experience. Looking forward to more pics.
Well if you get the chance, do take it - they are much softer than most sheep, and no oil/lanolin in their wool to make your fingers greasy. An added benefit, many folks who can't wear wool, can wear alpaca clothing.
Yes, no doubt that oil cause the discomfort or allergy unlike the alpaca wool. What is the sheer schedule for the ones you are raising, if I may ask?
We shear them in May usually, depending on schedules and availability of the folks we help and who help us.
I could locate a farm near you if you'd like to observe or participate in shearing day? Most farms would welcome extra hands.
Yeah, definitely, I would like to sheer some alpacas, but I doubt there are any alpaca farms in the vicinity of nyc.
Try going to alpacainfo dot com. Click on the Member List tab. Filter by state. You may find farms within an hour or so of NYC. I bet some would even pick you up from the nearest train depot or bus stop. Most alpaca farmers I have met are extremely friendly and will go out of their way to help you come and visit.
