The Great Midwest Alpaca Festival

Aspendance Valiant's Grace took third place in the Juvenile Bay Black Female class, a competitive class of nine at the Great Midwest Alpaca Festival this past weekend.

To her credit, the first place winner went to the same female who won the Futurity show (the premiere alpaca show and auction in the country, attended by the most prestigious farms), and second place went to the  animal who won this class at the MN Alpaca Expo where we took second, by a farm who has sunk considerably more money into their breeding program than we have. So, all in all, I thought we did darn well.

Like I said, we'd have been happy with Grace no matter how she did.

That will be Grace's last halter show for this spring, although we might enter her fleece in Shepherd's Harvest Sheep & Wool Festival this coming weekend, if we can get it skirted and entered in time.

If you live in the metro area (or even if you don't) and you want to attend a wonderful festival celebrating all things fleece-related, this is a "don't-miss" festival.  From sheep-herding demonstrations to sheep-shearing to all sorts of fiber classes (carding, spinning, weaving, felting) and dozens upon dozens of wonderful vendors goods, spending a day at the festival is my favorite way to spend Mother's Day.  We'll be there on Sunday.  How about you?

How are you spending Mother's Day Weekend? I'd love to hear!
